Short description

Sometime in the 22nd century, humans have fully terraformed and colonized Venus and Mars. The Neosapiens, an artificially engineered race created to be slaves for the Terrans, have turned against their masters and formed the Neosapien Order/Empire/Commonwealth. Under the rule of the calculating Governor General Phaeton, the Neosapiens have launched an invasion of Earth and Venus. The ExoFleet, the Homeworlds' space navy (in particular, Able Squad, a group of Exo-Frame pilots led by Lieutenant J.T. Marsh), fight against the invasion in an interplanetary war to protect the Terrans.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The starship Resolute is evidently named after the bark Resolute, the wood of which was later used to make the table used by U.S. presidents primarily in the Oval Office of the White House.
  • The 'Neosapiens Order' and Fayton are likely allusions to the Third Reich and Adolf Hitler. The ideology of Neosapien racial superiority almost verbatim quotes the racial theory of the Third Reich. The suppressed uprising of the Australian resistance refers to the history of the 1944 Warsaw Uprising, when the Red Army failed to provide timely assistance to the insurgents. One of the episodes is titled 'Blitzkrieg' (German for 'lightning war'), which also references World War II. In the same episode, Fayton uses a phrase characteristic of Nazi Germany: 'new world order'.
  • Neo sapiens — in Latin, "New Sapiens".
  • The echo-ship used for loading and repair work was obviously borrowed from the 1986 film "Aliens" (the loader Ripley uses to fight the Queen).
  • In the original, humans of the Homo sapiens race, as in the StarCraft universe, are called Terrans (plural of terran, from the Latin terra).
  • Additionally, one of the planets in the StarCraft universe—Mar Sara—was named after Marsela, a neo-sapient serving in the echo-fleet.
  • In episode 48, the term "Fifth Column" is used in a positive sense, with a reference to its original source. Admiral Winfield uses it to refer to the Earth Resistance.
  • The derogatory nickname for neo-sapiens in the original is 'sape' (singular), which is an abbreviation of the race's name (sape) and sounds similar to 'ape'.
  • The names of most neos in the series are derived from world mythologies (Greek, Roman, Sumerian, Hindu) and Roman history. Presumably, Pretorius is named after the surname of two South African politicians, father and son.
  • The appearance of the neo-sapiens partially resembles Professor G. L. Shapiro's prediction of the 'human of the future,' according to which humans will evolve to be 'tall, four-fingered, and hairless'.
  • Interestingly, Miles Quaritch's exoskeleton from the movie 'Avatar' is very similar to J.T. Marsh's combat machine. Additionally, the Na'vi have blue skin, just like the neo-sapiens.
  • In the 20th episode, when the battle of the airborne units on the moon is shown, one can trace an analogy with the description of airborne combat from Robert Heinlein's book 'Starship Troopers.' The troopers are clad in powered armor, move in leaps, and are equipped with similar weaponry.
