- The series combines a number of characters and plotlines from 'It', 'Dreamcatcher', 'The Green Mile', 'Misery', and other Stephen King bestsellers.
- At the beginning of the film, a guard listens to radio station WKIT (100.3 FM) from Bangor, Maine. This radio station is owned by Stephen King himself. He also owns radio station WZON, which also appears in various works of his.
- Bill Skarsgård had to lose weight for the role of a Shawshank prison inmate.
- Marc Bernardin left his position as an editor at the Los Angeles Times to become one of the screenwriters for this project.
