Set in 1920s Paris, this historical drama follows composer Maurice Ravel after he is commissioned by dancer Ida Rubinstein to write music for a new ballet. Through this internal process and the energy of the city, he eventually creates his most successful work, Boléro.
The film was directed by Anne Fontaine, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Jacques Fieschi and Pierre Trividic. This project follows her previous films, including Coco Before Chanel and Night Shift. The cast features Raphaël Personnaz in the lead role as Ravel, alongside Jeanne Balibar, Doria Tillier, Emmanuelle Devos, Sophie Guillemin, and Vincent Perez.
Produced by companies including France 2 Cinéma and Artémis Productions, the movie had a budget of 13 million USD and earned 4 million USD at the worldwide box office. Audience reception is moderate, with a rating of 6.5/10 on IMDb based on 1,200 votes and a rating of 6.2/10 on TMDB from 84 votes.
