Short description
Carmen and Juni think their parents are boring. Little do they know that in their day, Gregorio and Ingrid Cortez were the top secret agents from their respective countries. They gave up that life to raise their children. Now, the disappearances of several of their old colleagues forces the Cortez' return from retirement. What they didn't count on was Carmen and Juni joining the "family business."
What's left behind the scenes
- The film's director, Robert Rodriguez, edited the film in a "garage." In reality, he worked in a state-of-the-art editing studio located at his home, which he inexplicably refers to as a garage.
- The impetus for creating the film was a short film Rodriguez made for the movie "Four Rooms".
- The name of Teri Hatcher's character – Miss Gradenko – is a reference to the song by the rock band The Police from their 1983 album "Synchronicity".
- Danny Trejo typically plays characters in Rodriguez's films whose nicknames refer to some type of knife. In this film, Trejo played Isador Cortez, nicknamed Machete.
- The film's main characters – Gregorio, Carmen, and Juni – are named after Rodriguez's relatives.
- This film was the last Rodriguez shot on celluloid. Post-production took place at George Lucas's Skywalker Ranch, where the creator of 'Star Wars' introduced Rodriguez to the digital High-Definition filmmaking technology.
