Spy Kids
Short description
Carmen and Juni Cortez believe their parents live unremarkable lives, until the two children learn that Gregorio and Ingrid were once top agents for their respective countries before settling down to raise a family. When former colleagues begin to disappear, the couple is drawn back into service, and their children become part of the operation as well. The siblings must use their parents' spy gadgets to confront the villain Fegan Floop and his plans involving robot children.
Robert Rodriguez directed and wrote the film, his seventh feature in chronological order, following The Faculty and preceding Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams. Alexa PenaVega and Daryl Sabara lead the cast as the children, with Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino as their parents, and Alan Cumming as Floop. Produced by Rodriguez and Elizabeth Avellan through Troublemaker Studios with Dimension Films and Miramax, the film cost about 35 million dollars and took roughly 148 million dollars worldwide, a strong return on its budget.
Audience response has been moderate: on IMDb it holds 5.6/10 from around 135,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.8/10 from roughly 3,800 votes. A critics' rating of 7.2/10 from 130 reviews is notably higher than those audience scores, indicating a warmer professional reception than general viewers gave it. The film runs 88 minutes.
