Dragon Eyes is an action drama set in the St. Jude district of New Orleans, a neighborhood where drug trafficking and police corruption have worn down the people who live there. A newcomer named Ryan Hong arrives with formidable martial arts skills and a strong sense of right and wrong, and he sets out to push back against the gangs and crooked officials who have taken over the area. His mentor Tiano trained him, and Hong's campaign initially gains ground, but the corrupt police chief Mr. V works to stop him.
The film was directed by John Hyams, arriving between Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning and Alone in a run of five features that began with Universal Soldier: Regeneration in 2009. Tim Tori wrote the screenplay, and Joel Silver, Alan Amiel and Courtney Solomon produced. Cung Le plays Hong, with Jean-Claude Van Damme as Tiano, Peter Weller as Mr. V, Luis Da Silva Jr. as Dash, Crystal Mantecon as Rosanna and Rich Clementi as a gang member.
Made for a modest 3 million USD and released in May 2012, the film runs 88 minutes. On TMDB it holds a 5.3 rating from 208 votes, a reception that points to a mixed response rather than a warm one.
