Short description
Harriet Gibbons, a music producer, lost her boyfriend Max in a car accident two years earlier, and she has been struggling to move on since. Certain songs connected to their relationship send her physically back in time, letting her revisit moments with him. Because she believes she might be able to prevent his death, she searches for the right track that could carry her to the day of the crash. Her grief and her trips into the past complicate things when she meets David Park, who is also dealing with a loss, and begins to fall for him.
The film is a romance with comedy and fantasy elements, built around the idea that music and memory are linked, and it asks whether changing the past would really be the right thing to do. Ned Benson wrote and directed it, following his 2014 debut The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Them; it is his second feature. Lucy Boynton plays Harriet, Justin H. Min plays David, David Corenswet plays Max, and Austin Crute, Retta and Andie Ju appear in supporting roles. Searchlight Pictures produced it with Groundswell Productions and Flying Point, and it runs 94 minutes.
It was released in April 2024. On IMDb it holds a moderate audience rating of 6.2 from around 8,800 votes, while on TMDB it scores 6.5 from a much smaller pool of 167 votes; the two are close, indicating a generally mixed but not unfavorable response from viewers.
What's left behind the scenes
- When Harriet, played by Lucy Boynton, sits down to listen to music, the surrounding setting replicates the image on Maxwell audio cassette advertising posters from the 1970s.
- Morris (played by Austin Krut) tells Harriet that she is so talented she could become the new Alan Parsons. Alan Parsons was the sound engineer on the British band Pink Floyd's album The Dark Side of the Moon (1973). Towards the end of the film, the viewer sees the album cover – it's the wallpaper on Harriet's smartphone.
