Miller's Girl

Miller's Girl centres on Cairo Sweet, a gifted young writer, and Jonathan Miller, the creative writing teacher who recognises her talent. When he sets her a project, the assignment pulls the two of them into an increasingly complicated relationship in which the boundaries between teacher and student, mentor and protégée begin to blur. Both are forced to confront sides of themselves they would rather keep hidden, and the consequences of their involvement grow harder to contain.

The film is the writing and directing debut of Jade Halley Bartlett, produced by Mary-Margaret Kunze, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. Jenna Ortega plays Cairo opposite Martin Freeman as Miller, with Bashir Salahuddin, Gideon Adlon, Dagmara Domińczyk and Christine Adams in supporting roles. It runs 93 minutes and blends drama, comedy, romance, mystery and thriller elements.

Released in January 2024, the film was made for about 4 million dollars and returned roughly 1 million at the worldwide box office. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.2 from around 27,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.3 from just under a thousand votes. A critics' rating of 5.1 from 66 reviews places it close to the IMDb audience figure and below the smaller TMDB sample.
