Superman faces a crisis that draws him into battle once more, but this time a new group of heroes steps forward to lend a hand. Calling themselves the Elite, they are four powerful beings led by the brash and calculating Manchester Black, and they take a far more brutal approach to fighting evil than Superman does. The public embraces their ruthless methods, leaving Superman looking outmatched and out of step with the times as he struggles with a challenge to his ideals.
The animated film was released in 2012 and runs seventy-six minutes. It is a free adaptation of the comic story "What's So Funny About Truth, Justice & the American Way?" Michael Chang directed, following his earlier work on Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo, and Joe Kelly wrote the screenplay. George Newbern voices Superman, with Pauley Perrette as Lois Lane and Robin Atkin Downes as Manchester Black, among a credited cast of twenty-seven. Produced by DC Entertainment, DC Comics, Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Premiere on a budget of four million dollars, it holds a rating of 7 out of 10 on IMDb from around sixteen thousand votes and 6.9 out of 10 on TMDB from just under five hundred.
