Battlestar Galactica: The Plan

Battlestar Galactica: The Plan retells the events of the reimagined television series from the perspective of the Cylons, the machine race humanity created and which turned against its makers. Their opening assault on the Twelve Colonies was meant to wipe out humankind, but survivors escaped into space, forcing the attackers to improvise the completion of their mission. Two copies of the Cylon model known as Number One, or Cavil, work on the Colonies and aboard the human fleet, pursuing a goal that proves less straightforward than expected as long years spent among humans leave their mark.

The film is a spin-off from the Battlestar Galactica series, made for home viewing, and was directed by Edward James Olmos, who had played Commander William Adama on the show. It followed his earlier feature American Me by many years and stands second in his directing filmography. Jane Espenson wrote the screenplay, with Glen A. Larson, creator of the original 1978 series, among the producers. Olmos reprises Adama, alongside Dean Stockwell as Cavil, Michael Trucco, Grace Park, Michael Hogan and Callum Keith Rennie in a large credited ensemble.

On IMDb the film holds a rating of 7 out of 10 from roughly twenty-two thousand votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.7 from about five hundred votes, a modest figure typical of a companion piece aimed mainly at existing fans of the series.
