Being Heumann

Upcoming drama Being Heumann focuses on Judy Heumann, who refuses to be viewed as a burden and channels her frustration into a movement for change. Set in 1977, the story follows Heumann and over 100 other activists as they protest for the rights of people with disabilities, arguing that the societal system is the problem rather than the individuals.

The film is directed by Siân Heder, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Rebekah Taussig. This project follows Heder's previous directorial efforts, Tallulah and CODA. Produced by Apple Studios, Permut Presentations, The Walsh Company, and Gravity Squared Entertainment, the movie features Ruth Madeley in the lead role as Judy Heumann. The supporting cast includes Mark Ruffalo, Dylan O'Brien, Madeline Delp, Rob Delaney, and Ray Fisher. With a runtime of 127 minutes, the United States production is scheduled for release on November 6, 2026.
