Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever

Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever is an action thriller from 2002 centred on two government operatives who have spent years trying to outmanoeuvre each other. Jeremiah Ecks, a former FBI agent, and the assassin known only as Sever are on opposite sides of a secret conflict between intelligence agencies. When a microscopic, injectable device surfaces that can lie dormant inside a victim's body before killing them without leaving a trace, the two adversaries are drawn into the race to obtain it. The plot brings them together against a common opponent, though their rivalry remains part of the story throughout.

The film was directed by Wych Kaosayananda, whose feature Fah came out in 1998, making this his second directorial credit. Alan B. McElroy wrote the screenplay, and Elie Samaha, Chris Lee and Kaosayananda produced. Antonio Banderas plays Ecks and Lucy Liu plays Sever, with Gregg Henry, Ray Park, Talisa Soto and Miguel Sandoval among a credited cast of 28. It was a co-production between Germany, Canada, the United States and Switzerland.

Ballistic was released on 20 September 2002 and runs 91 minutes. It performed poorly against its reported budget of 70 million dollars, taking about 20 million worldwide. Audiences rate it 4.4 out of 10 on TMDB across roughly 400 votes, while the film critics' rating stands at 2.8 out of 10 from 119 reviews, placing critical and audience responses fairly close together at the low end of the scale.
