Sitting Bull

Sitting Bull is a 1954 Western set during the tensions between the United States Army and the Sioux, as the expansion of white settlement pushes the tribe toward open war. General George Armstrong Custer, hostile to the Sioux, provokes the confrontation that culminates in the battle of the Little Bighorn. Caught between the two sides is Bob Parrish, a white friend of the Sioux who works to prevent bloodshed. His efforts bring him before a military tribunal on a charge of collaborating with the enemy, and Sitting Bull himself intervenes with President Ulysses S. Grant on Parrish's behalf.

The film was directed by Sidney Salkow, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Jack DeWitt. It appears between Salkow's Faithful in My Fashion (1946) and The Last Man on Earth (1964). Dale Robertson plays Parrish, with J. Carrol Naish as Sitting Bull, Mary Murphy as Kathy Howell, John Litel as Wilford Howell, Joel Fluellen as Sam and Iron Eyes Cody as Crazy Horse. W.R. Frank produced for W.R. Frank Productions, and the picture was a Mexican and American co-production running 105 minutes.

On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.8 from around 1,000 votes, while on TMDB it has a 5.3 from 26 votes. The larger IMDb sample and the modest scores place it as a mid-century Western that drew limited lasting attention.
