The Phantom of the Opera

Set in Paris in 1877, this story follows a series of brutal murders and accidents occurring within the Grand Opera. A mysterious figure, raised by creatures in the subterranean caverns beneath the theater, stalks the building. The man's violent nature shifts when he becomes infatuated with Christine, a young soprano, leading to a complex and unstable romantic connection.

The film was directed by Dario Argento, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Gérard Brach. It is the 13th of 17 films he directed, following The Stendhal Syndrome and preceding Jenifer. The production was a joint effort between Hungary and Italy, involving Medusa Film and Cine 2000. The cast features Julian Sands as the Phantom and Asia Argento as Christine Daaé, alongside Andrea Di Stefano, Nadia Rinaldi, Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni, and István Bubik.

With a budget of 10 million USD, the movie received a lukewarm response from viewers and critics. It holds a rating of 4.3/10 on IMDb based on 6,200 votes and 4.7/10 on TMDB from 201 votes. Film critics gave the movie a lower score of 3.2/10 based on 9 reviews.
