Replicant

A serial killer named Garrotte has been terrorizing Seattle, leaving a trail of murdered women and almost no usable evidence. Detective Jake Riley has pursued the case without success, even as the killer repeatedly contacts him personally after each crime. Frustrated and worn down, Jake leaves the police force just as a secret government agency approaches him with an unusual proposal. Using DNA recovered from a single strand of the killer's hair, scientists have created a genetic duplicate of Garrotte. Jake is asked to work with this clone, whose genetic link to the murderer may allow him to anticipate the killer's behavior.

Ringo Lam directed the film, which came after Maximum Risk (1996) in his filmography. Jean-Claude Van Damme plays both the clone and Garrotte, with Michael Rooker as Jake, Catherine Dent as Angie, Ian Robison as Reisman, Pam Hyatt as Mrs. Riley and Marnie Alton as Hooker.
