Wall Street

Wall Street follows Bud Fox, a young stockbroker in New York who is determined to reach the top of his profession. He manages to get close to Gordon Gekko, a wealthy and unscrupulous corporate raider he admires, and Gekko takes him under his wing. Bud is drawn into a life of fast money and luxury, but the relationship pulls him into illegal dealings. The conflict sharpens when Gekko threatens an airline where Bud's father, a union official, works.

Oliver Stone directed and co-wrote the film with Stanley Weiser, and Edward R. Pressman produced it. It was released in December 1987, the fourth of the twenty-two films Stone has directed in chronological order, arriving between Salvador and Talk Radio. Michael Douglas plays Gekko and Charlie Sheen plays Bud, with Martin Sheen as Carl Fox, Daryl Hannah as Darien Taylor, John C. McGinley as Marvin and Hal Holbrook as Lou Mannheim. The credited cast runs to ninety-six people.

Made for 15 million dollars, the film took about 44 million dollars worldwide, a solid return. A critics' rating of 7.5 out of 10 from 64 reviews places it slightly above both audience scores.
