Xingu tells the story of the Villas Bôas brothers, three young men who join a Brazilian government expedition into the country's central interior in the 1940s. What begins as a search for adventure turns into something else when they meet the indigenous peoples of the region and witness the damage brought by disease and outside encroachment. The brothers commit themselves to protecting these communities and their way of life, setting them against powerful political and military interests as they work toward creating a large indigenous reserve and national park.
The film is a Brazilian production directed by Cao Hamburger, who wrote the screenplay with Anna Muylaert and Elena Soarez. João Miguel, Felipe Camargo and Caio Blat play the three brothers, with Maiarim Kaiabi, Awakari Tumã Kaiabi and Adana Kambeba also in the cast, which numbers 88 credited performers. Fernando Meirelles, Bel Berlinck and Andrea Barata Ribeiro produced, and the film runs 102 minutes. It is a drama drawn from Brazilian history.
On TMDB, the film holds a rating of 7.4 out of 10 from 55 votes, which suggests a modest but appreciative audience.
