Short description
Bhaag Milkha Bhaag tells the true story of Milkha Singh, an Indian runner whose childhood in a small village is shattered when the violence of the India-Pakistan partition destroys his family. Left with nothing, he makes his way to Delhi, where he survives by petty theft and later joins the army. His speed is noticed during a race, setting him on a path toward international athletics and the nickname "The Flying Sikh". The film follows his struggle to turn a traumatic past into the discipline that carries him to the highest levels of competition, along with the relationships that shape his life.
Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, the film came after his 2006 release Rang De Basanti, and was written by Prasoon Joshi and produced by P S Bharathi. Farhan Akhtar plays Milkha Singh, with Sonam Kapoor Ahuja as Biro, Divya Dutta as Ishri Kaur, Pavan Malhotra as Constable Gurudev Singh, Rebecca Breeds as Stella and Prakash Raj as an army officer.
