Short description
What Jake Vig doesn't know just might get him killed. A sharp and polished grifter, Jake has just swindled thousands of dollars from the unsuspecting Lionel Dolby with the help of his crew. It becomes clear that Lionel wasn't just any mark, he was an accountant for eccentric crime boss Winston King. Jake and his crew will have to stay one step ahead of both the criminals and the cops to finally settle their debt.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Filming of the movie began on April 2, 2002, in Los Angeles. By the end of May of the same year, filming was completed.
  • James Foley joined the film's set after leaving the project "The Recruit".
  • In the original version of the script, the King weighed over 100 kilograms and owned a gym. Dustin Hoffman reviewed the script and told the filmmakers that he would act in it, but only if his character was changed, so King became the owner of a nightclub.
  • Hoffman and Burns repeatedly rehearsed and worked on the scene where the King first meets Jake (played by Edward Burns) and Lily (played by Rachel Weisz), but without Weisz, because director James Foley wanted her to experience embarrassment and awkwardness as the scene developed. Therefore, when Hoffman's character grabs her by the chest, the actress's reaction is completely genuine and not acted.
  • James Foley landed a role in this film after leaving the project "The Recruit".
