Dragon Hunters takes place in a world that has broken apart into countless floating islands of different shapes and sizes, where the inhabitants live by two simple rules: eat, and avoid being eaten. The legend of the World Eater, a monstrous dragon said to wake every twenty moons, has begun to look real again, and Lord Arnold has gathered signs of its return. When his own knights fail, his young niece Zoé sets out to find heroes, and she settles on Gwizdo and Lian-Chu, a pair of small-time dragon hunters whose skills are less impressive than she believes. Gwizdo, seeing money in the lord's offer, lets her keep her illusions, and the group travels to the far edge of the universe to confront the creature.
Guillaume Ivernel and Arthur Qwak directed the film, which Qwak wrote with Frédéric Lenoir. It is Ivernel's first feature as director, followed by Spycies and The Legendaries in the chronological order of his filmography. The voice cast includes Vincent Lindon as Lian-Chu, Patrick Timsit as Gwizdo, Philippe Nahon as Lord Arnold, Amanda Lear as Gildas, Marie Drion as Zoé and Jérémy Prévost as Hector.
The animated family film runs 82 minutes and was produced by France 3 Cinéma, Futurikon, Mac Guff Ligne and Belgacom across Belgium, Luxembourg and France. Made for about 12 million dollars, it earned roughly the same amount worldwide. On IMDb it holds a 6.5 rating from around 14,000 votes, and on TMDB a 6.5 from close to 500 votes, indicating a modest but steady reception.
