Lucky Luke and the Daltons

The Dalton brothers are the most persistent failures in the American West, and their reputation has sunk so low that Ma Dalton throws them out of the house. To win back her respect, Joe and Averell join their brothers in planning a robbery of the heavily guarded Gulch City Bank, whose staff are trained in combat. The attempt ends in prison, where the four learn of a magic sombrero that makes its wearer invincible. They break out, cross the Mexican border and set off after the hat, unaware that Lucky Luke is following their trail.

Philippe Haïm directed this French, Belgian, Spanish and German co-production, the second of the three features he made, following Barracuda in 1997. The screenplay is by Ramzy Bedia and Michel Hazanavicius. Éric Judor and Ramzy Bedia, a well-known comedy duo in France, play Joe and Averell, with Saïd Serrari as Jack, Til Schweiger as Lucky Luke and Jean Dujardin in a supporting part. The film adapts the comics by Morris and Goscinny.

Audiences have been largely negative: on IMDb it holds 3.3 out of 10 from about 3,900 votes, and on TMDB 3.6 out of 10 from 375. Those low scores, drawn from a modest number of viewers, indicate a comedy that found little favour even among fans of the source material.
