Muppet Treasure Island

Jim Hawkins, a young orphan, comes into possession of a map showing where a pirate's treasure is buried. He sets out to find it aboard a ship crewed by Muppets, joined by his friends Gonzo and Rizzo, with Kermit the Frog as the respectable Captain Smollett. Also among the crew is Long John Silver, played by Tim Curry, who learns of the map and intends to take the treasure for himself, setting up the central conflict between the captain and the mutinous pirate.

The film is a Muppet retelling of Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island, released in 1996 and directed by Brian Henson. It followed The Muppet Christmas Carol, Henson's earlier Muppet adaptation of a literary classic, and was produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Jim Henson Productions, with Frank Oz and Brian Henson producing from a screenplay by James V. Hart, Jerry Juhl and Kirk R. Thatcher. Alongside Curry, the cast includes Kevin Bishop as Jim, Billy Connolly as Billy Bones, Jennifer Saunders as Mrs. Bluveridge, and Muppet performers Dave Goelz and Steve Whitmire.

Made for about 31 million dollars, the film took in roughly 39 million dollars worldwide, a modest return against its cost. Audiences have rated it 6.9 out of 10 on IMDb from around 29,000 votes and 6.7 out of 10 on TMDB, while critics gave it 6.4 out of 10 across 88 reviews, close to audience opinion and placing it as a mildly received family adventure with music and comic elements.
