Maya

A woman travels to Mexico to investigate the mysterious death of her father, a scientist who had been studying ancient Mayan rites and secrets. Upon her arrival, a series of violent and unusual deaths begin to occur in the region. Along with a companion and a doctor, she faces a cult that continues to perform human sacrifices and an invisible supernatural force linked to an ancient curse awakened within the temples.

This 1989 Italian horror and mystery film was directed by Marcello Avallone, who also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Andrea Purgatori and Maurizio Tedesco. Following his 1987 film Specters, Avallone cast Mariella Valentini as Lisa Slivak and Peter Phelps as Peter, with supporting roles played by Erich Wildpret, Cyrus Elias, Mariangélica Ayala, and Mirella D'Angelo. Produced by Maurizio Tedesco through Reteitalia and Trio Film, the movie has a runtime of 100 minutes. Audience reception has been low, with a rating of 4.7/10 based on 650 votes on IMDb and 4.8/10 from 22 votes on TMDB.
