The Blob

A meteorite crashes near the small California town of Arborville, bringing with it a gelatinous life form that absorbs everything it touches and grows larger with each victim. Three teenagers — Brian Flagg, Meg Penny and Paul Taylor — find themselves trying to protect their community from the creature, while a government team moves to seal off the area. Chuck Russell directed and co-wrote the film with Frank Darabont; it followed his 1987 debut, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, and arrived in 1988 as the second of ten features he has directed to date. Kevin Dillon, Shawnee Smith and Donovan Leitch lead a cast of 47 credited performers, among them Jeffrey DeMunn, Candy Clark and Joe Seneca.

The production had a budget of 10 million dollars and returned about 8 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.6 out of 10 from more than 42,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.9 out of 10 from roughly 1,100 votes, so general audiences rate it moderately. A critics' rating of 5.9 out of 10 from 28 reviews places it slightly below the audience scores, though all three measures sit in similar territory. The film runs 95 minutes in total.
