Project: ALF picks up six years after the alien Gordon Shumway, known as ALF, was captured by the Alien Task Force while trying to leave Earth. He has spent that time held at a secret military base, where Colonel Gilbert Milfoil wants him and other alien life forms eliminated. Two Air Force scientists, Captain Rick Mullican and Major Melissa Hill, break ALF out and go on the run with him. They seek help from Dexter Moyers, a former NASA scientist whose plan to reveal ALF's existence to the world creates its own complications.
The 1996 television film continues the story of the 1980s sitcom character. Dick Lowry directed, working from a screenplay by Tom Patchett and Paul Fusco; it sits between Miracle Landing (1990) and Attila (2001) in Lowry's directing credits. Fusco again voices ALF, with Miguel Ferrer, William O'Leary, Jensen Daggett, Martin Sheen and Ray Walston in the cast.
Made as a German-American co-production and running 95 minutes, the film drew modest audience scores: on IMDb it holds 5.4/10 from around 3,400 votes, while on TMDB it rates 6/10 from a much smaller pool of 138 votes.
