What's left behind the scenes

The film is based on Josephine Hart's novel 'Damage' (1991).
Isabelle Adjani was initially cast for the role of Anna Barton, but she was unable to participate in the project due to prior commitments. The role was then offered to Jodie Foster, but she turned it down because she didn't see herself in the part. Eventually, the role of Anna went to Juliette Binoche.
