Mom, Is That You?!

Akio Kanzaki is a stressed human resources manager facing a failing marriage and a strained relationship with his college-aged daughter. Seeking a reprieve, he visits his mother, Fukue, in an old district of Tokyo. He is confused to find her completely transformed, trading her usual apron for stylish clothes and a newfound sense of romantic vitality. Through interactions with his mother's eccentric neighbors and the discovery of her hidden side, Akio begins to regain a perspective on life that he had previously lost.

The film was directed by Yoji Yamada, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Yuzo Asahara. This production follows several other works by Yamada, including The Twilight Samurai and the second and third installments of What a Wonderful Family!, and precedes his 2025 film Tokyo Taxi. The cast features Yo Oizumi as Akio, Sayuri Yoshinaga as Fukue, and Mei Nagano as Mai, with supporting roles played by YOU, Moe Edamoto, and Kankuro Kudo.
