Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem is a French-Japanese animated musical from 2003. A quartet of musicians from another galaxy is abducted by a record producer who passes them off as human and markets them as a manufactured pop act called The Crescendolls. Their memories are overwritten so they no longer know who they are, and their new manager grows rich and powerful as the group tops the charts. Shep, a space pilot in love with the bass player Stella, travels to Earth to follow them. He frees the other musicians at one of their concerts, though Stella remains in the producer's hands, and the band sets out to recover its true identity and to rescue her.

The film was directed by Kazuhisa Takenouchi and Leiji Matsumoto, and written and produced by Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk together with Cédric Hervet. It serves as a visual realisation of the duo's album Discovery, with each track accompanying a segment of the story. Matsumoto's involvement connects it to his earlier animated space epics, while Takenouchi's credits include Dragon Ball and One Piece films. The film runs 68 minutes, cost about 4 million USD and returned roughly 7 million USD worldwide.
