Britney Allen has it made at Pacific Vista High, where she is the popular captain of the cheerleading squad. When her father takes a new job, the family moves, and Britney is forced to enroll at Crenshaw Heights, a working-class school with a very different social scene. She struggles to fit in, particularly with Camille, the assertive leader of the cheer squad, but eventually wins a place on the team. A competition then pits her new school against her old one, with the winning squad earning a spot in a music video for the singer Rihanna.
The film is a comedy directed by Steve Rash, working from a screenplay by Alyson Fouse. It came out in 2006, arriving after Rash's earlier credits such as Can't Buy Me Love, Son in Law and American Pie Presents: Band Camp, and before later entries including Bring It On: In It to Win It. Hayden Panettiere plays Britney, with Solange as Camille, Jake McDorman as Brad Warner and Kiersten Warren as Pam Allen among the main cast. It was produced by David Roessell and released by Universal Studios Home Entertainment as part of the Bring It On series.
Audience responses to the film differ between platforms: on TMDB it holds a rating of 6.9 out of 10 from around 900 votes, while on IMDb it averages 5.6 out of 10 from roughly 23,000 votes, indicating a mixed but more muted reception among the larger IMDb user base. A small sample of critics' reviews places it at 3.8 out of 10, a lower figure than either audience score.
