Safe Haven

Katie Feldman arrives in the small coastal town of Southport, North Carolina, and keeps to herself, reluctant to form attachments. She gradually grows close to Alex Wheatley, a widowed shopkeeper raising two young children, and to her outspoken neighbour Jo. As the relationship deepens, Katie's past closes in on her, and she must decide whether she can trust Alex with what she is hiding.

Safe Haven is a 2013 American romance thriller directed by Lasse Hallström, the fifteenth of the twenty films he has directed in chronological order, following The Hypnotist and preceding The Hundred-Foot Journey. Dana Stevens and Gage Lansky wrote the screenplay, and the film was produced by Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen and Ryan Kavanaugh. Julianne Hough plays Katie, with Josh Duhamel as Alex, Cobie Smulders as Jo and David Lyons as Kevin Tierney. It runs 115 minutes.

Made for a budget of 28 million dollars, the film took close to 98 million dollars worldwide, a solid return. Audiences received it more warmly than critics: on IMDb it holds 6.7 out of 10 from around 121,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.2 out of 10 from roughly 2,500 votes, while the critics' rating stands at 4 out of 10 from 147 reviews.
