The Next Three Days
Short description
John Brennan is a college professor whose life with his wife Lara and their young son appears settled until Lara is arrested for a murder she insists she did not commit. The evidence points against her, and she is convicted. Three years later John is raising their son on his own and has spent everything he can spare on legal efforts to clear her name. When the last appeal fails, Lara grows desperate, and John concludes that the only way to keep his family intact is to get her out of prison himself, despite having no experience in anything criminal.
The Next Three Days was released in 2010 and runs 133 minutes. Paul Haggis directed and wrote the screenplay, and produced it with Michael Nozik and Olivier Delbosc. It is his fourth feature as director, following Red Hot, Crash and In the Valley of Elah. Russell Crowe plays John, Elizabeth Banks plays Lara, and Ty Simpkins plays Luke; Brian Dennehy, Helen Carey and Olivia Wilde appear in supporting roles. It was made for about 30 million dollars and took roughly 67 million worldwide.
On IMDb the film holds 7.3 out of 10 from around 215,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.1 out of 10 from roughly 3,200 votes. The critics' rating stands at 5.9 out of 10 across 168 reviews, lower than the audience scores.
What's left behind the scenes
- Visitations are prohibited at the Allegheny County Jail.
- John's car has different license plates in different shots of the film.
- John and Lara exit the hospital and find themselves in downtown Pittsburgh. In reality, this hospital is located far from the city center.
- According to the film's plot, Lara spent 3 years in prison, however, murderers are not held in Pennsylvania prisons. She could only have been held there before sentencing.
- John's car's rear taillight is sometimes damaged, sometimes not.
- You cannot open a door with a tennis ball, as proven by “MythBusters” in 2007.
