Short description
Set during the Second World War, Allied follows Max Vatan, an intelligence officer sent to North Africa in 1942 for a mission behind enemy lines. There he works alongside Marianne Beauséjour, a fighter with the French Resistance, and the two pose as a married couple while carrying out an assignment to kill a German ambassador. After the operation the pair reunite in London, marry and start a family. Their life together comes under strain when Max is told that Marianne may be working for the Germans, leaving him to question everything he believed about his wife. Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard play the couple, with Jared Harris, Simon McBurney, Lizzy Caplan and Daniel Betts in supporting roles.
Robert Zemeckis directed the film from a screenplay by Steven Knight, and produced it with Steve Starkey and Graham King. It is the nineteenth of twenty-three films he has directed in chronological order, arriving between The Walk and Welcome to Marwen. Made for a budget of about 106 million dollars, it took in roughly 120 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.1 from around 179,000 votes, while on TMDB its rating is 6.8 from just under 5,000 votes. The film critics' score stands at 6.2 from 256 reviews, lower than both audience ratings.
