Short description

A high school basketball team, its coaches and cheerleaders are heading home after a championship victory when their bus breaks down on a deserted stretch of highway. Stranded with no way to call for help, they find themselves hunted by the Creeper, a winged creature that wakes every twenty-third spring and feeds on people for twenty-three days before returning to its long sleep. The attack comes near the end of that cycle, and the students can only try to survive until morning. Elsewhere, a local farmer whose youngest son was taken by the creature sets out after it himself.

Victor Salva wrote and directed the film, his fourth feature and a direct follow-up to his 2001 horror film Jeepers Creepers. Jonathan Breck returns as the Creeper, with Ray Wise as Jack Taggart, Sr., alongside Travis Schiffner, Al Santos, Nicki Aycox and Eric Nenninger. Tom Luse produced; the credited cast runs to twenty-seven names and the crew to 128. Made for about 17 million dollars, it took roughly 63 million worldwide, a strong return that confirmed the series as a viable franchise and led to further instalments. On TMDB it holds a 6.2 rating from 1,887 votes, indicating a modest but settled reception among viewers.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The originally filmed scene where the Creeper chooses his victims on the bus was considered "too comical" by director Victor Salva. The director wanted to cut it, but changed his mind when it became clear that the scene was one of the audience's favorites during test screenings.
  • The protagonist of the first film, Derry Jenner, played by Justin Long, who died in the finale, appears here in a cameo role during Minxie Hayes' prophetic vision. His co-star from the first film, Gina Philips, expressed no desire to appear in the second.
  • During the filming of the scene where the harpoon is created, sparks landed in one of actor Ray Wise's pockets, causing his costume to catch fire; however, the actor did not stop and played the scene through to the end.
  • In the opening scene, the farmer's eldest son, Jackie, is fixing a car. He uses a tool known in slang as a 'creeper'.
  • Filming took place from May 10 to August 9, 2002.
  • Actor Meat Loaf was supposed to play the bus driver, but ultimately turned down the role for unknown reasons.
  • To become the true Creeper, actor Jonathan Breck had to spend approximately 3 to 5 hours in the makeup chair.
  • In the scene where Izzie, Dee, and Rhonda find the pest control pickup truck and try to drive away in it, actor Travis Schiffner accidentally shifted into first gear instead of reverse. According to the actor, it happened by mistake, but the director liked the moment so much that it was kept in the film.
  • The main song from the previous film, 'Jeepers Creepers' (2001), was not used in the sequel; however, it served as the basis for one of the musical themes in the movie.
  • The film was originally to be titled 'Like in Hell: Jeepers Creepers 2', but the title was later simplified to 'Jeepers Creepers 2'.
  • According to the initial concept, the sequel's plot was meant to revolve around Trish and Giselle (characters from the first film), who were to track down the Creeper and attempt to kill him, while the school bus idea was merely one of the side plots. However, as the script developed, Victor Salva grew more fond of that specific side story. Ultimately, the storyline with Trish and Giselle was removed from the script, and the students terrorized by the Creeper on the school bus became the film's main protagonists.
  • The filming locations were Long Beach and Tejon Ranch (California), as well as Los Angeles.
