Set in Sweden during the Cold War, this historical drama follows Karl-Göran Persson, a rural laborer who becomes obsessed with preparing for a potential invasion. After reading a government pamphlet about war, he spends years gathering scrap metal to transform his home into a fortified stronghold. While he believes he is creating a sanctuary for himself and his neighbors, his project evolves into a fixation that isolates him from the community and leads to escalating tension with the local villagers.
The film was directed by John Skoog, who previously directed Reduit in 2014. It was co-written by Skoog and Kettil Kasang, with Ruben Östlund, Misha Jaari, and Erik Hemmendorff serving as producers. The movie is a multinational production involving companies from Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, Poland, Finland, and the Netherlands Antilles. Denis Lavant stars in the lead role of Karl-Göran Persson. The story is presented as a character study of fear and the desire for security, unfolding over an 85-minute runtime.
