Beyond Re-Animator

Dr. Herbert West has spent more than a decade behind bars, held responsible for the deaths at Miskatonic University caused by his experiments on the dead. He remains in a maximum-security prison, still convinced that his work was justified and still determined to prove he can restore life. When a new prison doctor takes an interest in his methods, West gains a chance to continue his research inside the walls, working with human tissue and a substance released at the moment of death that he believes can bring back both body and mind. The experiments, however, carry consequences he has not allowed for. Brian Yuzna directs, with José Manuel Gómez writing the screenplay and Julio Fernández and Yuzna producing. It is the seventh feature Yuzna directed, following films including Society, Bride of Re-Animator, Return of the Living Dead III and The Dentist. Jeffrey Combs returns as Herbert West, joined by Jason Barry, Elsa Pataky, Enrique Arce, Nico Baixas and Lolo Herrero. The production was a Spanish and American co-production made for about three million dollars. On IMDb it holds 5.7 out of 10 from roughly 14,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.9 from about 400. A critics' score of 4.8 from 11 reviews sits below both audience figures.
