The Ice Tower

Set in the 1970s, this drama and fantasy film follows Jeanne, a teenage orphan who runs away from her home in the mountains to the city. She finds shelter in a movie studio where a production of The Snow Queen is being filmed. Jeanne becomes fascinated by the lead actress, Cristina, who is as mysterious as the character she portrays. As a mutual attraction develops, Jeanne becomes increasingly involved in the production, leading to a blurring of the lines between the cinematic world and reality.

The film was directed by Lucile Hadzihalilovic, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Geoff Cox. This is the fourth feature in her career, following Innocence (2005), Evolution (2016), and Earwig (2022). Marion Cotillard stars in a double role as Cristina and The Snow Queen, marking another collaboration with Hadzihalilovic after Innocence. The cast also includes Clara Pacini as Jeanne and August Diehl as Max.

Released in September 2025, the film has received a moderate response from general audiences, with a rating of 6/10 on IMDb from 1,300 votes and 5.6/10 on TMDB from 27 votes. In contrast, film critics gave the movie a higher rating of 7.6/10 based on 60 reviews.
