Even Angels Eat Beans

Even Angels Eat Beans is a 1973 Italian action comedy set in Depression-era America, where two men with no luck and little talent for crime find themselves working for the mob. Sonny, a small-time crook, and Charlie, a wrestler known for his strength, become partners after Charlie runs into trouble for refusing to throw a match that a gang boss had bet against him. Hired as enforcers by the gangster Angelo, the pair prove hopeless at the job: they have too much sympathy for the people they are meant to intimidate and end up helping them instead, which puts them at odds with Angelo and attracts the attention of the police.

Enzo Barboni directed the film and co-wrote the screenplay with Tulio Demicheli and J. Fortini. It followed his three earlier western comedies, They Call Me Trinity, Trinity Is Still My Name and Man of the East, and preceded Crime Busters. Giuliano Gemma plays Sonny opposite Bud Spencer as Charlie Smith, with Robert Middleton as Angelo, Bill Vanders as McIntosh, Riccardo Pizzuti as Cobra and Lara Sender as Gerace's Daughter. It was produced by Thomas Sagone and runs 118 minutes.

Audience response has been modest but durable. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.2 from around 3,700 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.4 from roughly 241 votes.
