Valley of the Wolves: Iraq follows Polat Alemdar, an agent of the Turkish secret service, as he travels into Iraq and becomes caught in a conflict with organized crime and foreign forces there. The story draws on real events of the period, including the occupation of Iraq and the treatment of Turkish soldiers by American troops in the north of the country, and uses them as the starting point for a fictional narrative.
The film is a Turkish production directed by Serdar Akar and written by Bahadır Özdener and Raci Şaşmaz, who also produced it. It continues the story of characters from the Turkish television series Valley of the Wolves, with Necati Şaşmaz leading the cast as Polat Alemdar, alongside Gürkan Uygun, Kenan Çoban, Erhan Ufak and Bergüzar Korel. The international cast includes Billy Zane as Sam William Marshall.
Released in early 2006, the film was made for a reported eight million dollars and took in roughly three times that amount worldwide, making it one of the more commercially successful Turkish films of its time. Audience responses have been mixed: on IMDb it holds a rating of 5.7 from around nineteen thousand votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.1 from a much smaller number of votes.
