Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai centres on Rahul and Anjali, close friends at college whose easy bond is unsettled by the arrival of Tina, the headmaster's daughter. When Anjali realises her feelings for Rahul run deeper than friendship, he has already fallen for Tina. Anjali leaves without telling him, and Rahul and Tina marry.

Years later, Tina dies after giving birth to a daughter she names Anjali. Before her death she writes a series of letters for the girl, the last of which is opened when the child turns eight. In it she asks her daughter to bring Rahul back together with his old college friend Anjali. The task is complicated by the fact that the grown Anjali is about to be married, and the child sets about finding her and changing her mind.

The film, released in October 1998, is Karan Johar's first turn as director and the earliest entry in the chronology of his features; he also wrote the screenplay, while Yash Johar produced it under the Dharma Productions banner. Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol lead as Rahul and Anjali, with Rani Mukerji as Tina, Sana Saeed as the younger Anjali and Salman Khan as Aman. Running just over three hours, it earned roughly its two-million-dollar budget worldwide. On IMDb it holds 7.5 from about 62,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.5 from over 400.
