Ace High is an Italian Western comedy about a wanted outlaw named Cacopoulos who escapes a hanging on a false charge, then robs two drifting gunslingers, Cat Stevens and Hutch Bessy, taking both their money and their horses. The theft sets off a running pursuit across the frontier in which the two men, initially determined to get even, end up as uneasy partners in Cacopoulos's plan to settle scores with those who betrayed and framed him. The film's original Italian title is I quattro dell'Ave Maria, and it was directed by Giuseppe Colizzi, who also wrote and produced it with Bino Cicogna. It followed Colizzi's God Forgives... I Don't! and came before Boot Hill and All the Way Boys. Eli Wallach plays Cacopoulos, with Terence Hill and Bud Spencer as the pair he crosses, and Brock Peters, Kevin McCarthy and Livio Lorenzon in supporting roles across a cast of thirty-seven credited performers.
Released in October 1968 and running 132 minutes, the film mixes action and broad comedy in a Western setting. Its ratings on IMDb and TMDB both stand at 6.5 out of 10, from roughly 5,200 and 223 votes respectively, indicating a modest but steady level of interest.
