Kung Pow: Enter the Fist

Kung Pow: Enter the Fist is a martial arts comedy built around a 1970s kung fu film, with new footage shot by writer, director and star Steve Oedekerk spliced into the older material. Oedekerk plays the Chosen One, a fighter raised on training from before his birth, who sets out to avenge his parents after they are killed by the villainous Master Pain. His search for the man responsible leads him through a series of encounters with eccentric allies and enemies, all of it played for laughs.

The film was directed, written and produced by Oedekerk, working with producers Tom Koranda and Paul Marshal, and it followed his earlier comedies Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls and Nothing to Lose. Much of the supporting cast is drawn from the original footage, including Lung Fei as Master Pain, Hsieh Ling-ling as Ling and Lau Kar-Wing as Wimp Lo, alongside Leo Lee and Lin Yan in newly filmed roles. The production cost about 10 million dollars and took in roughly 17 million worldwide.

Released in January 2002 and running 81 minutes, it sits between Nothing to Lose and Barnyard in Oedekerk's directing work. Audiences rate it moderately: on IMDb it holds 6.2/10 from nearly 48,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.5/10 from just over 800 votes. A critics' rating of 3.5/10 from 54 reviews is markedly lower than those viewer scores.
