Curly Sue

Curly Sue is a comedy drama about Bill Dancer, a homeless drifter who survives by running small cons with the orphan girl in his care, Curly Sue. The two of them stage an accident involving a wealthy Chicago lawyer, Grey Ellison, and she takes them into her home. Her jealous boyfriend, Walker, resents their presence and works to push them out, while Grey grows attached to the pair and Bill begins to reconsider the life he has been living.

John Hughes directed, wrote and produced the film, the eighth he directed and the one that followed Uncle Buck in 1989. Jim Belushi plays Bill, Alisan Porter plays Curly Sue, Kelly Lynch plays Grey, John Getz plays Walker, and Steve Carell appears as Tesio. It runs 102 minutes.

Made for a budget of 25 million dollars, the film took in about 34 million dollars worldwide. Audience scores are modest, with 5.9 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 25,000 votes and 6.4 out of 10 on TMDB from 588 votes, while the film critics' rating stands at 3.7 out of 10 from 15 reviews, well below the audience scores.
