Superhero Movie

Superhero Movie is a parody of superhero films. Rick Riker is an awkward teenager who lives with his uncle and aunt, is smitten with a classmate named Jill Johnson, and gains extraordinary abilities after being bitten by a genetically modified dragonfly during a school visit to a research laboratory. He adopts a costume and the identity of the Dragonfly, but his powers do not cure his clumsiness. He must contend with Lou Landers, who gains the power to drain the life force from others and becomes the villain known as the Hourglass.

The film was directed by Craig Mazin, who also wrote the screenplay, from his second feature behind the camera after The Specials in 2000. Drake Bell plays Rick, with Sara Paxton as Jill, Christopher McDonald as Lou Landers, Leslie Nielsen as Uncle Albert Adams, Kevin Hart as Trey and Marion Ross as Aunt Lucille, among a credited cast of 81. Robert K. Weiss, David Zucker and Mazin produced. Made for 35 million USD, it took 72 million USD worldwide.

Audiences are divided. On IMDb it holds 4.8/10 from 84,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.3/10 from 2,091 votes. A critics' rating of 4/10 from 48 reviews places it below both audience scores. It runs 82 minutes.
