Love Exposure

Love Exposure is a Japanese film about Yu, a teenage boy raised in a strict Christian household. After his mother dies, his father becomes a priest and begins pressuring Yu to confess his sins. Since Yu has none to report, he sets out to commit them instead, training as a photographer who secretly takes pictures under women's skirts. His life changes when he meets Yoko, a girl he falls for, though his attempts to win her over are complicated by cross-dressing, entanglements with kung fu and crime, and the guilt left over from his Catholic upbringing.

The film was directed and written by Sion Sono, working from a screenplay of his own, with Haruo Umekawa producing for Omega Project. It is the seventh of the nineteen films Sono directed in chronological order, arriving after Hazard and before Cold Fish. Takahiro Nishijima plays Yu, with Hikari Mitsushima as Yoko, Sakura Ando as Koike, Makiko Watanabe as Kaori, Atsuro Watabe as Tetsu, and Yutaka Shimizu as Yuji, among a credited cast of 203. It runs 237 minutes and mixes action, comedy, drama and romance.

Released in 2008, the film has drawn strong audience scores, sitting at 8 out of 10 on IMDb from around 18,000 votes and 7.9 out of 10 on TMDB from roughly 540 votes. A critics' rating of 7.7 out of 10 from 21 reviews places it in similar territory to those audience figures.
