Amin Jaafari is a respected Arab surgeon living and working in Tel Aviv, where he has built a comfortable life with his wife, Siham, and a circle of friends. After a suicide bombing at a restaurant leaves many dead, Amin is called in to identify one of the victims and learns that the police believe Siham carried out the attack. He rejects the accusation, but a letter from her confirming her role forces him to question everything he thought he knew about their marriage. Determined to understand what led her to this, Amin leaves his life in Israel and travels into the Palestinian territories to find the people who recruited her.
The film is directed by Ziad Doueiri, who wrote the screenplay with Joelle Touma, and it is the first of the two features listed among his directing credits, followed by The Insult. Ali Suliman leads the cast as Amin, with Reymonde Amsallem as Siham and supporting turns from Evgenia Dodena, Dvir Benedek, Uri Gavriel and Karim Saleh.
A co-production between Belgium, Qatar, Lebanon and France, The Attack runs 102 minutes and took about 2 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a 7.1 rating from roughly 4,800 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.8 from around 95 votes. A film critics' rating of 7.4 from 58 reviews places it somewhat above both audience scores.
