Set in 19th-century China, the story follows Lu Chan, a man with a hidden power who travels to Chen Village to study the secret art of Chen Style Tai Chi. Because the villagers are forbidden from teaching their martial arts to outsiders, they attempt to drive him away through a series of fights. While the residents initially reject him, the arrival of an adversary from the village's past changes the dynamic. This antagonist intends to build a railroad through the area using a massive steam-powered machine, forcing the villagers to rely on Lu Chan to protect their home.
