Lee Kang-do works as a debt collector in Seoul, strong-arming craftsmen who have fallen behind on loans from a local moneylender. Rather than simply threatening them, he cripples debtors in staged accidents so their insurance payouts can cover what they owe, a method that even his boss finds distasteful. Into this solitary life comes a woman named Mi-sun, who claims to be the mother who abandoned him as an infant. He initially rejects her coldly, then gradually accepts her into his home. Her care prompts him to reconsider his work, but when she suddenly disappears, he sets out to find her, suspecting revenge by one of his past victims.
Kim Ki-duk directed and wrote the film, the ninth of the thirteen features he made in chronological order, arriving between The Bow and Moebius. Cho Min-soo plays Mi-sun and Lee Jung-jin plays Gang-do, with supporting turns from Woo Ki-hong, Kang Eun-jin, Heo Joon-seok and Kwon Yul. Kim Soon-mo produced.
Released in 2012, the Korean drama runs 104 minutes and took about 7 million dollars worldwide. It holds a 7.1 rating on IMDb from roughly 17,000 votes and a 7 on TMDB from around 434 votes. A critics' rating of 6.6 from 55 reviews sits below both audience scores.
