Santa's Slay

Santa's Slay presents a different version of Christmas lore: Santa Claus is a demon who was forced to deliver toys and goodwill after losing a wager with an angel. With that agreement now expired, he abandons his kindly role and resumes his old ways. The film follows the violence that follows in a small town, where a young man and a woman he meets become involved in the struggle against him. David Steiman wrote and directed the film, his feature directing debut. The cast is led by professional wrestler Bill Goldberg as Santa, alongside Douglas Smith, Emilie de Ravin, Robert Culp, Dave Thomas and Saul Rubinek. Filmed in Canada and the United States, it runs 85 minutes and mixes horror with comedy and fantasy.

The film was released in October 2005, with a production involving Lions Gate Films and RAT Entertainment, and producers Sammy Lee, Brett Ratner and Matthew F. Leonetti Jr. Its reputation rests on a modest reception rather than wide acclaim: on IMDb it holds 5.4/10 from roughly 12,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.5/10 from about 270 votes. Those figures point to a small but engaged audience that has kept the title visible years after its release, with its central joke, Santa as a figure of menace, remaining its main talking point.
