Short description

Three children are accidentally transformed into sea creatures after drinking a potion created by an eccentric scientist. Now trapped in the ocean, the group must locate and consume an antidote within 48 hours to reverse the process and return to their human forms.

This animated family adventure was co-directed by Stefan Fjeldmark, Michael Hegner, and Greg Manwaring. For Fjeldmark, it followed his 1993 work, Hugo, the Jungle Creature, and preceded Asterix and the Vikings in 2006. Hegner later directed The Ugly Duckling and Me! in 2006, Niko and the Way to the Stars in 2008, and Ivan the Incredible in 2012. The voice cast includes Sebastian Jessen, Pil Neja, and Morten Kerrn Nielsen.

The production had a budget of 18 million USD but earned 6 million USD at the worldwide box office. Audience reception is generally positive, with a rating of 6/10 based on 7,148 votes on IMDb and a score of 6.7/10 from 464 votes on TMDB.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The character of Goku is based on the Monkey King from Chinese mythology. Like his prototype, he uses a flying cloud and a staff that can grow longer.
  • In addition to the 153 episodes and 4 films, there are also 2 "lost" episodes. These are educational films that address road safety and fire prevention. They were never released in the US, but are included in Japanese editions.
  • The Hungarian actor who voiced Piccolo initially spoke in a very hoarse voice, believing he was voicing a minor character. To his surprise, Piccolo became one of the main heroes. And prolonged voicing in a hoarse voice helped the actor cure his throat.
