Broadcast News is a romantic comedy set in a Washington television newsroom, where the pressures of the job leave little room for personal life. Jane Craig, a driven news producer, becomes involved with Tom Grunick, an attractive new anchor whose charm and easy manner mask his limited grasp of the news he presents. Aaron Altman, a more knowledgeable but less confident reporter and Jane's close friend, resents the situation, and the two men find themselves competing both professionally and for her attention. Jane is torn between them while struggling to hold on to the standards she believes serious journalism should meet.

James L. Brooks wrote, produced and directed the film. It followed his 1983 debut Terms of Endearment, and he went on to direct As Good as It Gets, Spanglish, How Do You Know and Ella McCay. Holly Hunter plays Jane, William Hurt plays Tom, and Albert Brooks plays Aaron, with Robert Prosky, Lois Chiles and Joan Cusack in supporting roles.

Made for about 20 million dollars, the film took roughly 67 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.3 from around 37,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.8 from about 481 votes.
