Arthur Newman

Released in 2012, Arthur Newman centres on Wallace Avery, a divorced middle-aged man dissatisfied with his job, his relationship with his son and the direction his life has taken. He stages his own death, buys a new identity and sets off for Indiana under the name Arthur Newman, hoping to reinvent himself as a professional golfer. On the road he meets Michaela Fitzgerald, known as Mike, a younger woman who is also hiding from her past under an assumed identity. The two travel together, staying in other people's empty homes and borrowing their lives, while each struggles with what they are running from.

The film is directed by Dante Ariola from a screenplay by Becky Johnston, and stars Colin Firth as Wallace and Emily Blunt as Mike, with Lucas Hedges, Anne Heche, M. Emmet Walsh and Kristin Lehman in supporting roles. It runs 93 minutes and was produced by Cross Creek Pictures and Vertebra Films. It is Ariola's first feature as director.

Reception was muted. On IMDb it holds 5.6 out of 10 from around 8,100 votes, and on TMDB it also sits at 5.6 out of 10, from roughly 222 votes. A critics' rating of 4.7 out of 10 from 49 reviews places it slightly below the audience scores, so the film drew modest approval from viewers and rather less from critics.
